The length of each treatment will depend on the type and size of lesion present, but a typical session will take 15 to 45 minutes. We also offer our ‘The Glow’ facial which utilises IPL. This takes 75 minutes although the IPL segment of this treatment is approximately 30 minutes.
Generally downtime with IPL is minimal. If treating pigmentation, the pigment will get darker initially before reducing. This process can take between 5-7days.
Whilst IPL is an excellent tool at reducing pigmentation and broken capillaries, further sun exposure and ageing means that recurrence is expected. We recommend considering maintenance treatment every 6-12 months.
Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory condition which can be managed but not ‘cured’. We work closely with our rosacea patients on an individual basis to fomulate a bespoke plan as best to treat their concerns.
The light applicator is placed on the skin and a short pulse of light is released. The applicator is then moved to the neighbouring area and the process is repeated until the entire area is treated. During treatment protective eye wear will be provided. The treated area may feel warm and sensitive for the first few days post treatment. The lesions may darken and may appear more obvious before they fade and ‘flake’ away. Sometimes an initial whitening of the area is seen which quickly fades and the pigment gradually fades over the following few weeks.
The skin that surrounds the pigmented lesion may become red immediately after treatment. Most people experience no other side effects and the redness usually disappears within hours to a few days. Very rarely a small blister may form or the skin may become temporarily lighter or darker.
We advise to keep the skin cool after the treatment. Strenuous exercise, swimming, steam rooms and saunas should be avoided for the first 48 hours. SPF50 is an essential for at least 4 weeks post treatment and ideally should be used as part of your daily skincare routine to reduce the recurrence of pigmentation.
