In this special lip fillers post, we’ll go over the dos and don’ts of this popular treatment – from where to go, to what aftercare to try and what to avoid before your appointment.

Do: go to a reputable aesthetics clinic

One of the most important considerations for any beauty treatment – whether lip fillers or something else – is where to go and who to choose. At our skin clinic here in Suffolk, you can rest assured that you’re in safe, professional hands. Our experienced team have decades of combined experience and founder Rebecca Taylor herself is a Registered General Nurse and Nurse Prescriber.

Don’t: skimp on cost

When it comes to your face, you really can’t afford to make a mistake – and however high the cost may seem, remember that the confidence and boost to your self-esteem will be worth it. That’s why researching the cost of your lip fillers is so important – because even if your clinic ticks all the boxes, if the treatment sounds cheap, it’s probably not going to give you the results you’re looking for. In fact, some beauty treatments can carry risks – so it’s important to ensure your treatment is of high quality.

Do: follow good aftercare

There are lots you can do for your skin following lip filler treatment. Avoiding alcohol for at least 24 hours after the procedure is essential, and try not to touch the area, which might be swollen and red. It’s also worth avoiding ‘heat treatments’ such as sunbeds, saunas and hot tubs until the area settles. To help ease side-effects caused by the lip fillers, we also recommend using ice packs.

Do: be well-prepared

Our advice for pre-treatment care is similar to our aftercare advice – so no alcohol or ‘heat treatments’. Avoid aesthetic treatments such as peels and microneedling in the run-up to your appointment and don’t wear make-up on the day itself.

Don’t: forget to check your suitability

Although we will carry out a suitability assessment at the consultation stage, there are some people we will immediately recommend avoiding lip fillers. These include clients who are:

  • Pregnant and breastfeeding
  • Ill, have cold sores or have an infection near the lip area
  • Allergic to hyaluronic acid
  • Taking certain medications (eg blood thinners), or having diabetes or a suppressed immune system
