As experts in botox as well as many other aesthetic treatments, we love to give an insight into how our treatments work, what results you can expect, and how (and where) it is best to use them on the body. Today, we’re talking about all things botox. Read on to find out more about this incredible treatment, and why it might be worth considering for now – or the future.

What is Botox?

Botox is an injectable treatment that goes by many other names, including wrinkle relaxers and anti-wrinkle injections. The substance is completely safe as an injectable and it’s been used for decades – on both men and women – as an anti-ageing treatment, and also for medical applications.

What does Botox treat?

The clue is in the name – wrinkle relaxers. On a more scientific note, the substance helps to weaken the signals between the nerves and the muscles, so any areas of skin that show wrinkles from expressive moments (frowning, smiling) can appear smoother. It’s often used on areas like the forehead, brows and around the eyes. Some people also treat the neck and jawline. As for medical concerns, these can vary from migraine treatment to teeth grinding to jaw slimming.

Can botox be used preventatively?

Yes. It’s possible that we can target areas that show expressive movement but haven’t yet developed wrinkles. This is something we’d advise on during a consultation with us here at our Suffolk skin clinic.

Who can have Botox treatment?

Men and women over the age of 18 are generally suitable for wrinkle relaxers. For preventative treatment, we typically treat those in their twenties. Occasionally, you might have anti-wrinkle injections in several areas for a mix of preventative and ‘curative’ treatment.

What does Botox involve?

A series of anti-wrinkle injections carefully planned and gently delivered to targeted areas of the skin. A numbing agent keeps you comfortable during the procedure, and we give pre-and post-treatment advice to minimise any side effects, such as tenderness or swelling.

Will I need a consultation?

Absolutely – that’s always the first step before we go into treatment and recommendations. We hold our consultations here in Suffolk, and they’re a great way to get to know each other better and build a picture of your anticipated results. If you’d like to book a consultation online or want to know more about botox or any of our other treatments, contact our Suffolk skin clinic today for more information. We look forward to seeing you very soon!
