Aesthetic treatments are becoming increasingly popular, as people become more and more open about what they’ve tried and celebrate their beauty – whatever their shape, size, age or skin type. Here at Rebecca Taylor Aesthetics, a skin clinic based in Newmarket, Suffolk, we’re huge believers in the transformational powers of beauty treatments. For those who want to improve their features and build their confidence without going under the knife, these semi-permanent procedures give a boost in more ways than one – and can easily be topped up or scaled back in the future.

One beauty treatment that’s making waves recently is chemical peels. Like any beauty treatment, it’s easy to come across scary news articles or strange claims. The reality is that our Suffolk skin clinic carries out these treatments on a daily basis, and our happy clients, fantastic team and beautiful results speak for themselves.

In this post, we’ll focus specifically on chemical peels and talk through some of the ‘truths’ and ‘falsehoods’ surrounding this common, safe and ever-popular procedure.

Skin peels are painful: False

It’s entirely natural to feel anxious about having an aesthetic treatment – even when it’s carried out by trained professionals, like Rebecca Taylor, here at our Suffolk skin clinic. Skin peels sound intensive, but in reality, they’re a type of facial, and many of our clients find them deeply relaxing. Even following treatment, many people only report tingling or itchiness.

You need lots of sessions to get good results: Partly true

We usually recommend a course of between 4-6 skin peels for our clients, in order to maximise results. However, it’s likely you’ll experience improvements from the first one, from glowing, smoother skin to a reduction in concerns such as pores or acne.

Skin peels treat a variety of concerns: True

One of the great things about chemical peels is that they can be tailored to you and your skin. This means you’ll get the best out of your treatment, and will be able to target a particular concern. Our skin peels can help with:

  • Minimising pores, breakouts and acne
  • Evening and brightening skin tone
  • Reducing lines and wrinkles
  • Improving skin laxity

You can use chemical peels on the body: True

It may sound surprising, but some skin peels, such as our TCA peel, have skin remodelling qualities. They can actually be put to work on areas of the body, for example on pigmentation and stretch marks.

Skin peels harm the skin: False

Skin peels actually strip away older skin, penetrating deep below the surface to reveal the newer, younger skin underneath. Aside from some redness or sensitivity, you’ll likely not experience much in the way of downtime. While we do recommend protecting the skin from the sun following a chemical peel, we also suggest all our clients do this on a daily basis, anyway – as sun damage can cause ageing and other skin concerns.
