It is one of the first questions people ask before booking anti-wrinkle injections, and a fair one. You are planning around a result you want to look natural and last a sensible amount of time. The honest answer is that it varies from person to person. There is a clear typical range, though, and a few things that nudge your own result towards the longer or shorter end of it.

The short answer

For most people, once the treatment has fully settled, results last around three to four months. Some notice movement returning a little sooner, closer to two months. Others hold their result for up to six. If it is your first time, your result may fade nearer the three-month mark while your muscles adjust to treatment. Many people find their results last a little longer once they have had a few sessions at regular intervals.

When you will actually see the effect

Anti-wrinkle injections do not work on the day. Most people start to notice softer movement within three to five days, and the full effect is usually in place by around two weeks. That two-week point matters, because it is the fairest time to judge your result. If you look in the mirror at day three and worry it has not done much, that is completely normal. The treatment is still settling. Giving it the full two weeks before drawing any conclusions saves a lot of unnecessary second-guessing.

What affects how long your results last

Two people can have the same treatment and see it wear off at different rates. A few factors explain most of that difference.

  • Your metabolism. A faster metabolism tends to break the product down sooner, which is nothing to worry about. It simply means your body clears it a little quicker.
  • The area treated. Strong, busy muscles work harder, so high-movement areas like the forehead often sit at the shorter end of the range.
  • The dose and how it is tailored. The right amount is decided by your muscle strength and the look you are after, not a fixed formula. Getting this judged well is a big part of a lasting, natural result.
  • Your lifestyle. Intense exercise, heavy sun exposure and smoking can all shorten how long results hold.

How to get the most from your treatment

There is no trick that makes results last dramatically longer, and you should be wary of anyone who promises one. What genuinely helps is simple. Follow the aftercare your practitioner gives you. Keep to the timings they suggest rather than topping up too early. Treat the injections as one part of looking after your skin, alongside good daily care, rather than the whole plan. People who return at a sensible, regular interval often find their results become more predictable over time.

Why the clinic you choose changes the result

So much of your result comes down to who is holding the needle. Anti-wrinkle injections are a medical treatment, prescribed after a face-to-face consultation, and the assessment beforehand is where good, natural-looking results are really made. A thorough practitioner reads your facial movement, talks through what you want, and tailors the treatment to your anatomy. That is what turns a standard procedure into a result that suits your face.

At our Newmarket clinic, Suffolk, every treatment plan starts with a consultation with Rebecca Taylor, a registered nurse and independent aesthetic nurse prescriber, so your treatment is matched to you rather than a set template. If you are considering anti-wrinkle injections and want a realistic idea of what to expect, you are welcome to book a consultation to talk it through.
