Safe removal of benign lesions

Cryotherapy with the CryoPen™ is a safe, fast, and advanced new solution for the removal of benign skin imperfections and hyperpigmentation. The handheld device uses a fine jet of nitrous oxide to freeze skin lesions such as skin tags, age spots, millia, warts, cherry angiomas, verrucae, and sun spots. It works by freezing the fluid and water within the cells of the targeted skin, rupturing the cell membranes and causing the removal of the affected cells. This means there is no damage to the surrounding healthy tissue and its precise application allows for the optimum accuracy.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens during my cryotherapy appointment?

The CryoPen is held as close as possible to the skin and the nitrous oxide is applied before moving the pen away. We perform this treatment for 1-30 seconds, depending on the location of your lesion and its size. The treatment freezes the fluid in the cells and ruptures the skin cells, helping to destroy the lesion and encouraging the body to shed it.

Is cryotherapy with the CryoPen safe?

This treatment is very safe because the pen allows for precision application and treatment. It does not damage the healthy tissue surrounding your lesion, needs no anaesthetic, and scarring is highly unlikely in most skin types.

Does this treatment hurt?

You may feel a mild stinging sensation as the nitrous oxide penetrates your skin which may continue for a few minutes after treatment, but it will gradually subside. The area may also feel a little itchy for 10-20 minutes after the procedure, but this is also normal.

Can anyone have cryotherapy?

Generally speaking, anyone can have receive cryotherapy treatment. Considerations will need to be paid regarding your skin type, skin tone, and location of your lesions, which we can discuss openly with you at your consultation.

How many treatments will I need?

This depends on the size and density of your skin lesion. Some may only require one treatment, while more complex or sensitive cases like warts or pigmentation may require two. Sensitive treatment areas such as around the eyes may receive shorter treatments and more treatment sessions to ensure your discomfort and safety is properly accounted for.
